Special Section of Various International Journals

On "Risk Management: Theory, Practice, and Future Research"

Overview

Risk Management and Engineering Management (RMEM) are becoming increasingly interesting to both the academic researchers and management practitioners. The broad range of application areas that have inspired research in risk management is reflected in the equally wide range of distinct risk management approaches to the service and enterprise domain and research communities working in enterprise risk management field. 

Responding to the need to strengthen risk management as a priority on the management agenda, we aim to leads research on risk management in collaboration with various public organizations, academics and private interests.

The main scientific objective of the paper competition is to create a framework for discussions on recent trends and innovations in the area of risk management and engineering management, bringing together academics and practitioners.

Paper Competition

The RiskChina Research Center at University of Toronto is sponsoring a paper competition, a by-invitation workshop in which the winning papers will be presented, and a special section of the various international journals on the topic of "Risk Management" The workshop will be held in conjunction with the special section published in the first half of 2009.  The RiskChina Research Center at University of Toronto is now accepting papers for Paper Competition. All interesting researchers are encouraged to participate in this competition.

By-invitation Workshop

This workshop attempts to understand the application and theories of risk management in the service industries and engineering field. It will provide a joint forum for specialists in the theory and applications of risk management, as well as their related areas, to present their results and exchange views, while its other focus will be on emerging developments and discussion of open problems in the risk management fields.

Publications

All papers accepted for presentation will be edited and published in proceedings headed by conference Chairpersons and other committees.

Proceedings are published and distributed by the Universe Academic Press in Toronto (http://uapress.cmut.org) or World Scientific Publisher. Proceedings will be indexed by ISTP/EI (sent for evaluation).

A paper submission implies agreement the winning paper will be published in special issues of the following international journals:

  • International Journal of Technology Management (SCI/EI indexed)
  • Production Planning and Control (SCI/EI indexed)
  • International Journal of Services Sciences (IJSSci)
  • Journal of Human and Ecological Risk Assessment (HERA) (SCI indexed)
  • International Journal of Risk Assessment and Management
  • International Journal of Knowledge Management Studies
  • International Journal of Information Technology And Management
  • International Journal of Financial Services Management

Due to the publication opportunity that is part of this competition; submitted papers should not be concurrently under consideration for publication elsewhere. However, published papers for presentation purpose are allowed.

Targeted Topics

Although our focus of the Paper Competition is risk management and engineering management, we welcome papers on a broad range of topics. Cross-disciplinary risk management research is encouraged. A book will be published including papers from various areas. This book will be indexed by ISTP and submitted for evaluation in EI.

Paper Competition, By-Invitation Workshop, and How to Submit

All papers submitted will be peer-reviewed and accepted papers will be published in the special section of the afor-mentioned journals and/or the book proceedings.

The best paper among those accepted will be awarded:

  • First Prize, Open Category (1)
  • Honourable Mentions (5)
  • First Prize, graduate Category (1)
  • Honourable Mention / graduate Category (5)
  • Organizing Prize (1)

In addition, each award will include an invitation for the paper to be presented at the special workshop on "Risk Management" (with possible complimentary airfare and registration) that will coincide with the publication of the special section.  Papers should be electronically submitted to the the Paper Competition editor by December 1, 2007, with a cover letter indicating that the paper is intended for the special section.

NOTE: Remember that this competition does not require that you write a special paper. A paper previously written for a co-op work term can be entered, as long as it adheres to the guidelines.

About the RiskChina Research Center

The RiskChina Research Center (RCRC, http://www.risklabchina.ca/) at University of Toronto is an institution affiliated with RiskLab Toronto (part of the international network of RiskLabs sponsored by Algorithmics) which was founded in 1996 to conduct activities in financial risk management, often times in collaboration with industrial partners. RCRC aims to promote collaboration toward understanding greater China based on in-depth research and experience.
